Good morning! Today I am in James 1:19-27. James tells us that we must be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. He tells us that our human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. We must get rid of all the filth and evil in our lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in our hearts, for it has the power to save our souls. We can't just listen to God's Word, we must do what it says. If we don't do what God's Word says, we are fooling ourselves. He tells us that only listening to the Word and not obeying it, is like glancing in the mirror and walking away, forgetting what we look like. But if we carefully look into the perfect law that sets us free, and do what it says and don't forget what we heard, then God will bless us for doing it. Then He tells us that if we claim to be religious and don't control our tongues, then we are again fooling ourselves, and our religion is worthless. Because pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt us.
God doesn't want us to just listen to His Word, He wants us to obey it. Our actions prove who we follow. We are either being obedient to Him, following what He says in His Word, or following the ways of the world, which is of the enemy. Our actions do not get us into heaven, its out faith in Jesus Christ that gets us into heaven, but if we truly believe what God tells us in His Word, then we will know the importance of obeying what He says. He gave us His laws for us to obey, and those laws help us see what is right in God's eyes or wrong. His laws are guidelines for us to live by so we can live free from the power of sin in our lives. He did not create His laws to hinder us, He created them so we can live holy, blameless lives. Lives that point people to God.
The more time we spend with God in His Word, in prayer, and worship to Him, the easier it is for us to live the lives that God wants us to live. God has got beautiful plans for everyone of us, but it is up to us to seek Him and be obedient to what He says. When we get rid of all the evil and filth in our lives and seek God with our whole hearts, He blesses us. Cleaning our lives up from those evil and corrupt things, that God does not like, helps us not be quick tempered, helps us listen more to what others have to say, and helps us control our tongues. When we live obedient to His Word, God blesses us with lives full of love, joy, peace, patience, all the good things, but God is the only one that gives us those things. In order to have those things, we must do what God tells us to do. As true believers and followers of Jesus Christ, we must be obedient to God and His Word that He has given us. Allow God to help you walk in obedience to Him today.
