Good morning! Today I am in Acts 17:1-9. Paul and Silas traveled to Thessalonica. For three Sabbaths in a row Paul went to the synagogue there and tried to use the Scriptures to reason with the people. He explained the prophecies and proved that the Messiah must suffer and be raised from the dead. And that Jesus Christ was that Messiah. Some of the Jews that listened were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, along with many God-fearing Greek men and several prominent women. But some of the Jews were jealous, and they gathered some troublemakers from the market place to form a mob and start a riot. They attacked the home of a believer named Jason, searching for Paul and Silas. But they could not find them, so they dragged Jason and some of the other believers out and took them before the city council. They told the city officials that Paul and Silas had caused trouble all over the world, and now they were disturbing their city. They told the officials that Jason welcomed Paul and Silas into his home, and that they are all guilty of treason against Caesar for they profess allegiance to another king named Jesus Christ. The people of the city as well as the council were thrown into turmoil by these reports, so the officials forced Jason and the other believers to post bond, and then they released them.

Paul's teaching had a major impact on the city. Several believed and many did not. God's Word does that though. Jesus told us Himself that He came to set the world on fire, to divide people against each other. Saying some will favor Him and others will disagree with Him (Luke 12:49-52). This is exactly what was happening in this city. We must not be afraid to face this kind of opposition, because Jesus told us this would happen. We must continue on the mission that He put us on, which is to share His Good News with the world around us, and trust that God will handle the rest. Unfortunately, sharing the truth may cause turmoil, but the world needs to hear the truth. The world needs to be disrupted.

If you are facing this kind of turmoil around you, wherever you are, know that God is with you and you are not fighting alone. Just like Paul had Jason and other believers on his side, there are other believers on your side too. If you are having a hard time seeing those believers, ask God to show you His people. He will because He has people all over the world. You are never alone. Seek Him and He will guide you and give you the courage to speak up boldly for Him.
