Good morning! Today I am in Matthew 4:23-25, Mark 1:35-39, and Luke 4:42-44. After Jesus healed Simon's mother-in-law and the other people that were brought to Him, Mark and Luke tells us that Jesus got up very early the next morning, before daybreak, to spend time alone in prayer. Luke tells us that the people looked for Jesus everywhere, and when they found Him the people begged Him not to leave them. But Jesus told them that He had to go to other towns to preach the Good News, for that was why He had come. So He went throughout the region of Galilee and Judea preaching, teaching, healing, and casting out demons.
Large crowds had begun following Jesus everywhere, and He still took the time alone to pray. Mark and Luke specifically added that He went out very early, when everyone was probably still asleep, to go out and spend time with God in prayer. It was very important to Jesus, because we see it in other places in the gospels. If Jesus thought it was important to make time for prayer alone with God, how much more so is it important for us. Jesus is the Son of God, and He needed that time.
The enemy wants to distract us. Make us so busy that we don't feel like we have enough time in our daily lives to spend even just a little with God. Spending time with God in prayer, worship, and in His Word helps encourage us and strengthens us so we are able to get through whatever this world will throw at us through the day. When we don't spend time with Him, we tend to try to go through our days in our own strength. When we do that we will become overwhelmed and stressed out. But God gives us the strength to get through.
Do you spend time with God in the mornings before you start your day? Just a few minutes a day with God can change your entire day. One thing that I have learned over the years is that the more time I give to God, doing what He calls me to (reading His Word in the mornings, writing, going to church, etc....) the more time He gives to me. Yes, there was a point at the beginning of my faith walk, that I did not feel like I had time to give to God. But here is the thing, God is the Creator of the world. Creator of time and space. He gives you more time, if you make Him a priority in your life. He gives you everything you need. He is your provider. If you feel like you don't have enough time in your day, ask Him to help you with that, and carve out a little time in your day to get into His Word, alone, and pray, and allow Him to change your life. He will if you ask Him to.
