Good morning! This morning I am in John 4:4-15. Here we meet the woman at the well. Jesus and His disciples are passing through Samaria, and they come to Jacob's well. Jesus sends His disciples ahead to get food, while He stayed behind and rested. A Samaritan woman comes up to draw water. He asks the woman to give Him a drink. The woman was surprised because Jews usually had nothing to do with Samaritans. So she asked Him why He would ask her for a drink. He responds by telling her if she knew the gift God had for her and who she was speaking to, she would ask Him for a drink, and He would give her living water. She was confused, so she asked Him how He would give her a drink when He didn't have anything to draw water with. He told her that anyone who drinks the water from the well would soon be thirsty again, but anyone who drank the water He gave them would never be thirsty again. And that living water would become a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life. She asked Him to give her this water.
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord for offering us living water that will never run dry! A living water that refreshes our spirit daily! That is so awesome!
I love how Jesus appears to a woman that no one wanted to speak to, no one wanted to be around because of her past. But Jesus was there for her. Not only was He there for her, but He offered her the gift of eternal life! This living water that He offers is something our soul thirsts for. Our souls hunger and thirst, just like our physical bodies do. Our souls need the living Word, Jesus Christ, to quench our thirst, and our bodies need the written Word, the Bible, to satisfy our spiritual hunger. Without both of these things in our lives, we will try to fill those appetites with other things that are of the world. But God is the only one that can fill our spiritual appetites.
Does your soul hunger and thirst for something that you keep filling with other things? At some point, before we are saved by God, we fill that spiritual void with the things the world tells us we should. But God has a better gift for everyone of us. No matter what your background is, your race, or what you have done, God wants to satisfy your spiritual appetite. Allow Him time and space to fill that void in your life.
